Achieving accurate low-end control in your listening space can be challenging. Whether it's a studio or HiFi setup, proper bass management is crucial to attaining the best sound performance. In this project, we demonstrate the impact of installing two PSI Audio AVAA C214 units alongside advanced acoustic treatments. Discover how these changes drastically improved the low-frequency response, ensuring tight, controlled bass in a sophisticated HiFi environment.
In this image, you can see the final setup of the HiFi listening room featuring advanced acoustic treatment and two PSI Audio AVAA C214 units positioned on either side of the television. The Sahara panels from Artnovion, installed on the front wall, provide both acoustic absorption and a modern, textured aesthetic. The combination of these treatments, along with the AVAA C214 units, delivers superior low-frequency control, creating a balanced and immersive audio experience. The speakers are part of the high-performance system, further enhancing the room's overall sound quality.
Low-Frequency Control and Time-Domain Results: Before and After AVAA C214
The acoustic analysis test results for this HiFi listening room demonstrate significant improvements in low-frequency control and overall room acoustics, thanks to the installation of the PSI Audio AVAA C214 units and advanced acoustic treatments.
RT60 Before and After:
Before treatment, the RT60 values showed long reverberation times, especially in the low frequencies, leading to muddled bass and poor clarity. After treatment and the addition of the AVAA C214 units, the reverberation times dropped considerably, particularly in the critical low-end frequencies, resulting in a tighter, more controlled sound.
Waterfall Before and After:
The pre-treatment waterfall graph displayed long decay times at lower frequencies, indicating a lack of control over the bass, which can cause resonance and bass buildup. After treatment, the waterfall graph reveals a much quicker decay, especially in the sub-bass region, showing how effectively the AVAA C214 units eliminate unwanted resonances and smooth out the low-end response.
Spectrogram Before and After:
The spectrogram before treatment exhibited dense and prolonged low-frequency energy, signifying poor room absorption in the bass region. Post-treatment with the AVAA C214, the spectrogram shows a clear reduction in low-frequency energy, resulting in a more controlled and articulate sound in the bass range, significantly improving the room's low-end response.
In the pre-treatment spectrogram, the extended "flames" in the low-frequency range indicate significant ringing, a common issue where bass sounds linger and decay slowly due to poor low-frequency absorption. This prolonged resonance creates a muddy or boomy sound, negatively affecting clarity and precision in the room's acoustic profile. After installing the AVAA C214, the spectrogram reveals a marked improvement, with the "flames" significantly shorter, signaling reduced ringing. By shortening decay times, the AVAA C214 delivers tighter, more controlled bass, leading to a much clearer and more balanced acoustic environment.
These results highlight the transformative effect of the acoustic treatments and the AVAA C214 units, ensuring optimal sound quality in both studio and HiFi environments.
