Multiple Subwoofer  assessment
&
low frequency Optimisation

Multiple subwoofer assessment & Low Frequency Optimisation is the process of measuring low and sub frequency modal behaviour of a room. We analyse the low-frequency spectrum which includes low and sub frequencies and we use multi-sub placement technique to change the modal response of the room.  One of our technician will analyse your room with up to 4 subwoofers for the assessment.

Why using multiple subwoofers systems?

Bass frequency range accounts for as much as 20% of our judgement of sound quality which means that bass frequencies represent a really large part of how we perceive the sound of a room and it’s really important in home theatres, hi-fi listening rooms, gaming rooms and so forth.

A system without incorporating multiple subwoofers simply cannot sound "high fidelity" because it will be subjected to severe frequency response swings in the modal region and below due to room modes that creates standing waves.

Using multiple subwoofers to improve bass

As the total number of low-frequency sources decreases the spatial variance increases what that means is the less low-frequency sources there are the more variation there is as you move around.

Multiple subwoofer systems are not intended to obtain higher SPL levels but rather to smooth and balance the frequency response.

The best way to make the response smoother is to use multi-subs placed in particular locations to actively cancel room mode resonances.

Acoustic analysis, multi-sub system, acoustic treatment and room correction are strictly interconnected to provide the best outcome in terms of sound fidelity and accuracy.

Advantages of using multiple subwoofers:

  • Use of subwoofers to improve sound quality

  • More low frequency sources decreases spatial variance between peaks and nulls

  • Multiple subwoofers can be used in mode cancelling arrangements, resulting in smoother bass

  • Using subwoofers to reduce or cancel nulls caused by speaker boundary interference response SBIR

  • Consistent seat-to-seat bass response

Common problems:

  • The bass is especially erratic when stereo speakers are placed to optimize midrange/treble performance and imaging, as they should be.

  • The room and listening experience sound boomy or muddy

  • The overall sound lacks extension

  • Lack a visceral component

  • Distortion

  • Small rooms have strong modes between 20hz and 200hz

  • Domestic spaces have weak and overly rigid wall construction

  • Small rooms often just sound terrible at low frequencies

Multiple Subwoofer & Low Frequency Optimisation Key Features:

  • Room modes pre-calculation

  • 3D visualization of maximum and minimum pressure zones

  • Subwoofer Simulation and Modal resonances prediction and optimisation

  • Room Frequency Response Measurement and Analysis

  • SBIR speaker boundary interference response optimisation

  • Subwoofers symmetrical, asymmetrical locations assessment

  • Subwoofer SPL volume, gain matching

  • Subwoofer delay/phase alignment, time alignment

  • Butterworth, Linkwitz–Riley crossover filters and slope assessment

  • PEQ, global EQ and room correction

(Components of the analysis and report will vary depending on function and purpose of the room, room type, equipment and type of analysis required).

*If the main speakers and listening position have not been properly setup for best positioning during a room analysis, we strongly suggest conducting our room acoustic analysis first.

We travel interstate. Price on application.
